Apostille Questions
What is an apostille?
An apostille is a certificate that authenticates the signature and seal on a public document so it can be used in another country that belongs to the Hague Apostille Convention. For Texas documents, it is issued by the Texas Secretary of State.
How do I know whether my destination country accepts an apostille?
Countries that belong to the Hague Apostille Convention accept an apostille. Countries that do not belong usually require additional authentication and embassy or consulate legalization. Membership changes, so confirm the current requirement with the office receiving your document; we also check it during review. For example, Thailand has joined the Apostille Convention, with the change scheduled to take effect on February 28, 2027. Until then, documents for Thailand still require embassy legalization.
Can you apostille my birth certificate, marriage record or divorce decree?
Yes, if it is a certified copy from the issuing office. A notarized photocopy of a public record is not accepted. Texas birth certificates for apostille are ordered from Texas Vital Statistics.
Which documents can Texas apostille?
Documents issued by a Texas agency or court and private documents notarized by a Texas notary, such as affidavits, powers of attorney, letters and school records. The notarial certificate must be complete and correct.
My document is from another state. Can you help?
Yes. The state that issued or notarized the document issues the apostille. Our Nationwide Coordination service handles the order with that state.
What about FBI background checks and other federal documents?
Federal documents are authenticated by the U.S. Department of State, not Texas. Choose Federal Document Authentication.
How long does it take?
It depends on the service and the government office. Priority and Rush shorten our handling time, but no provider can control or guarantee government processing times.
What is the difference between full service and Courier & Filing Only?
Full service includes our document review and responsibility for getting the order submitted correctly. Courier & Filing Only is for documents that are already complete and correct; we deliver, file, collect and return them.
Can you notarize my document before it is apostilled?
Yes. Our $260 package combines secure remote online notarization with Standard apostille processing. Some countries do not accept online-notarized documents, so confirm with the receiving office first.
Are state fees included?
Texas packages and Courier & Filing include the $15 Texas Secretary of State fee for each document in the price. Nationwide, Federal and International government fees are listed in your written quote.
